Auto defrost refrigerators are easier to maintain than those kitchen equipment that uses manual defrost. An auto-defrost refrigerator has manual defrost which heats up a special coil so the ice will melt and automatically drain through the back of the refrigerator and into the duct. When your auto-defrost refrigerator is not functioning properly, here is what you can do.

Determine if the auto defrost feature is working properly. Look for the frost build up on the freezer wall. If there is frost, it only indicates that there is a problem with your auto-defrost refrigerator.

Turn off the refrigerator timer then have a look at the tabular header to see if it is hot. If it is, you will need to replace the defrost timer.

Check the refrigerator light to see if it turns off when you close it. If it is, the light is defective and needs a replacement too.
